This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Buena Vista County, Iowa dating from 1896-1975. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into three series: “County Board of Education, 1896-1975”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1896-1975”, and “District and School Records, 1919-1946”. Series 1. “County Board of Education, 1896-1975” contains microfilmed copies of records created by the County Board of Education. This series consists of County Board of Education Meeting Minutes and Reorganization and Consolidation Records. Series 2. “Office of the Superintendent, 1896-1975” contains microfilmed copies of records created by the Office of the Superintendent. This series contains Teachers' Examination Records, Record of Teachers' Certificates, School Officer and Teacher Records, Record of Teachers' Service, High School Grades and Graduation Records, and Incomplete-Drops and Transfers. Series 3. “District and School, 1919-1946” contains microfilmed copies of records created by individual schools and districts. This series consists of Teachers' Reports to the Superintendent and Daily Attendance Registers.
