Scope and Contents

This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Wright County, Iowa dating from 1880-1968. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into three series: “County Board of Education, 1953-1968”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1880-1968”, and “District and School, 1883-1966”. Series 1. “County Board of Education, 1953-1968” contains microfilmed copies of records that were created or utilized by the County Board of Education. This series consists of County Board of Education Meeting Minutes and Reorganization and Consolidation Records. Series 2. “Office of the Superintendent, 1880-1968” contains microfilmed copies of records that were created or utilized by the Superintendent’s Office.  This series consists of Superintendents’ Docket of Appeals, Superintendents’ File, Salary Records, Special Education Records, Wright County Institute Records, High School Normal Training Record, Teachers’ Examination Records, Record of Teacher Certificates, School Officer Record, School Officer and Teacher Record, Record of Schools Taught, Pupils’ Permanent Records, Pupil Profile Charts, and Eighth Grade Examination Records. Series 3. “District and School, 1883-1966” contains microfilmed copies of records pertaining to individual school and/or districts. This series consists of Iowa Professional School Employees Data Sheet (IPSEDS), Room Registers, Teachers’ Reports to the Superintendent, Daily Attendance Registers, Complete Term Registers, and Daily Programs.
