Boone County Rural School Records

 Collection
Identifier: RSC-RSR-008

Scope and Contents

This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Boone County, Iowa dating from 1889-1975. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into two series: “Office of the Superintendent, 1916-1978” and “District and School Records, 1889-1955”. Series 1. “Office of the Superintendent, 1916-1978” is comprised of microfilmed copies of records created by the Office of the Superintendent. This series contains Superintendents' Annual Report, Record of Teachers' Certificates, Superintendents' Record of Teachers' Service, Teachers' Teaching Records, and Eighth Grade Examination Records. Series 2.  “District and School, 1889-1955” is composed of microfilmed copies of records originating from individual school districts. It contains District Board of Education Financial Records, Teachers' Reports to the Superintendent, Daily Attendance Registers, and Preliminary Classification Reports.
