Scope and Contents

This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Audubon County, Iowa dating from 1881-1957. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into three series: “Office of the Superintendent, 1895-1951”, “Township Records, 1899-1957”, and “District and School Records, 1881-1957”. Series 1. “Office of the Superintendent, 1895-1951” contains official records of the Office of the Superintendent. This series consists of School Officer and Teacher Registers, Teacher’s Teaching Records, and Eighth Grade Examination Records. Series 2. "Township, 1899-1957" contains records on microfilm. This collections consists of Township School Censuses. Series 3. “District and School, 1881-1957” is composed of records relating activities that took place on the district or individual school level. This series consists of Room Registers, Teacher’s Reports to the Superintendent, District School Censuses, and Daily Attendance Registers.
