Allamakee County Rural School Records
Scope and Contents
This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Allamakee County, Iowa dating from 1907-1970. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. This collection is arranged into three series: "County Board of Education, 1907-1963", "Office of the Superintendent, 1907-1970", and "District and School, 1913-1948" -- which are sub-divided by format where necessary. Series 1. “County Board of Education, 1907-1963” contains records that were created by or utilized by the County Board of Education. Sub-Series 1: Physical Records, 1907-1963 contains County Board of Education Meeting Minutes, County Maps, and Reorganization and Consolidation Records. Sub Series 2: Records on Microfilm, 1947-1962 consists solely of Reorganization and Consolidation Records. Series 2. “Office of the Superintendent, 1907-1970” contains records that were created by or utilized by the Superintendent’s Office. Sub-Series 1: Physical Records, 1907-1970 consists of High School Normal Training Records, Examination Records, Teachers’ Certificates, Teaching Records, and Permanent Records. Sub-Series 2: Records on Microfilm, 1909-1970 includes Records of Teachers' Certificates, Teachers' Teaching Records, Pupils' Permanent Records, and Eighth Grade Examination Records. Series 3. “District and School, 1913-1948” contains records pertaining to individual school and/or districts. Sub-Series 1: Physical Records, 1914-1948 contains Room Registers, Daily Attendance Records, and Teachers’ Reports. Sub-Series 2: Records on Microfilm, 1913-1947 consists solely of Daily Attendance Registers.
