Palo Alto County Rural School Records
Scope and Contents
This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Palo Alto County, Iowa dating from 1901-1975. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into three series: “County Board of Education, 1931-1975”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1901-1975”, and “Township, 1901-1953”. Series 1. "County Board of Education, 1931-1975" contains records and microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by the County Board of Education. This series includes County Board of Education Meeting Minutes, County Board of Education Financial Records, and Reorganization and Consolidation Records. Series 2. "Office of the Superintendent, 1901-1975" is comprised of records and microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by the Office of the Superintendent. This series consists of Superintendents' Secretaries' Annual Reports, Superintendents' Financial Records, Teachers' Examination Records, Records of Teachers' Certificates, School Officer and Teacher Records, Summary of Individual Teacher Personnel, Record of Schools Taught, and Teachers' Record Cards. Series 3. "Township, 1901-1953” is composed of records on microfiche created and/or utilized by individual districts and schools. This series contains Township Board of Education Minutes and Township Board of Education Financial Records.
