Worth County Rural School Records
Scope and Contents
This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Worth County, Iowa dating from 1892-1967. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into three series: “County Board of Education, 1911-1964”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1892-1967”, and “District and School, 1945-1959”. Series 1. "County Board of Education, 1911-1964" is composed of micorfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by the County Board of Education. This series contains County Board of Education Meeting Minutes. Series 2. “Office of the Superintendent, 1892-1967” contains microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by the Office of the Superintendent. This series consists of Records of Teachers’ Certificates, Teachers’ Permanent Cumulative Records, School Officer and Teacher Records, Town School Officer and Teacher Records, Superintendents’ Record of Teachers’ Service, Teachers’ Teaching Records, Record of Schools Taught, Record of Teachers in Rural Schools, and Eighth Grade Examination Records. Series 3. “District and School, 1945-1959” contains records pertaining to individual school and/or districts. Sub-Series 1: Physical Records, 1893-1925 consists of Daily Attendance Registers and Complete Term Registers. Sub-Series 2: Records on Microfilm, 1942-1959 contains Room Registers and Daily Attendance Registers.
