Sac County Rural School Records
Scope and Contents
This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Sac County, Iowa dating from 1879-1974. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into four series: “County Board of Education, 1907-1974”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1882-1974”, “Township, 1951-1955”, and “District and School, 1879-1959”. Series 1. “County Board of Education, 1907-1974” is composed of microfilmed copies of records relating to or originating from activities directly carried out by the County Board of Education. This series includes County Board of Education Meeting Minutes and County Board of Education Financial Records. Series 2. “District and School, 1882-1974” contains records and microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by the Office of the Superintendent. This series includes High School Normal Training Records, Teachers’ Examination Records, Record of Teachers’ Certificates, School Officer and Teacher Records, Teachers’ Certificate Renewal Records, Teachers’ Teaching Records, Teachers’ Complete Records, Perfect Attendance Records, Pupils’ Examination Records, and Eighth Grade Examination Records. Series 3. “Township, 1951-1955” is composed of microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by the Township Board of Education. This series consists solely of Township Board of Education Financial Records. Series 4. “District and School, 1879-1959” contains records and microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by individual districts and schools. This series consists of Complete District Registers, District Board of Education Treasurers’ Record, Complete Term Registers, Librarians’ Record, a Department of Public Instruction Rural Music Bulletin, Text Book Order Forms, Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) Records, Room Registers, Teachers’ Reports to the Superintendent, and Daily Attendance Registers.
