Scope and Contents

This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Winnebago County, Iowa dating from 1910-1973. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into three series: “County Board of Education, 1919-1958”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1906-1975”, and “District and School, 1910-1974”. Series 1. “County Board of Education, 1919-1958” contains records and microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by the County Board of Education. This series consists of County Board of Education Meeting Minutes and Reorganization and Consolidation Records. Series 2. “Office of the Superintendent, 1906-1975” contains microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by the Office of the Superintendent. This series consists of Teachers’ Examination Records, Records of Teachers’ Certificates, School Officer and Teacher Records, Record of Teachers in Rural Schools, Pupils’ Permanent Records, Eighth Grade Examination Records, and High School Grade Sheets. Series 3. “District and School, 1910-1974” is composed of microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by individual districts and schools. This series contains Room Registers, Teachers’ Reports to the Superintendent, and Family School Censuses.
