Monona County Rural School Records
Scope and Contents
This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Monona County, Iowa dating from 1868-1976. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into four series: “County Board of Education, 1893-1975”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1884-1974”, "Township, 1868-1963", and “District and School, 1868-1974”. Series 1. County Board of Education, 1893-1975" contains microfilmed copies of records created and/or utilized by the County Board of Education. This series consists of County Board of Education Meeting Minutes, County Board of Education Financial Records, County Source Sheets, Reorganization and Consolidation Records, Blueprints, and Plat Maps. Series 2. "Office of the Superintendent, 1884-1974" contains microfilmed copies of records created and/ot utilized by the Office of the Superintendent. This series consists of Superintendents' Annual Reports, Superintendents' Correspondence, Superintendents' Files, Superintendents' Secretaries' Annual Reports, Special Supplement Reports, Superintendents' Cash Book, Payroll Records, High School Normal Training Records, Normal Institute Records, Teachers' Examination Records, Records of Teachers' Certificates, Teachers' Certificate Renewal Records, Teacher and Superintendent Contracts, Teachers' Record Cards, Employment Records, School Officer and Teacher Records, Superintendents' Record of Teachers' Service, Teachers' Teaching Records, Iowa Professional School Employee Data Sheets (IPSEDS), Proof of Successful Teaching Experience, Pupils' Permanent Records, Pupils' Health Records, Eighth Grade Examination Records, Incomplete-Drops and Transfers, New Standard Achievement Test Records, and Academic Aptitute Examination Records. Series 3. "Township, 1868-1963" contains records created and/or utilized by the Township Board of Education. This series consists of Township Board of Education Financial Records. Series 4. "District and School, 1868-1974" contains records created and/or utilized by individual schools and districts. This series consists of Complete District Records, District Board of Education Minutes, District Board of Education Financial Records, Annual Inventories, Open House Program, School Plant Survey, Basic Educational Data Reports/Individual School Survey Reports, Room Registers, Teachers' Reports to the Superintendent, District School Censuses, Textbook Records, Daily Attendance Registers, and Complete Term Registers.
