Scope and Contents

This collection contains documents from the rural school system of Mitchell County, Iowa, from 1905-1962. The records cover a majority of the rural schools’ histories, but they are not comprehensive: some records were lost before their transfer to the Center for the History of Rural Iowa Education and Culture. The collection material is arranged into three series – “County Board of Education, 1957-1962”, “Office of the Superintendent, 1912-1943”, and “District and School, 1905-1960”. Series 1. "County Board of Education, 1957-1962" contains records on  microfilm created and/or utilized by the County Board of Education. This series contains County Board of Education Meeting Minutes and County Board of Education Financial Records. Series 2. "Office of the Superintendent, 1912-1943" is comprised of records on microfilm created and/or utilized by the Office of the Superintendent. This series consists of High School Normal Training Records and Record of Teachers' Certificates. Series 3. "District and School, 1905-1960” is composed of records on microfilm created and/or utilized by individual districts and schools. This series contains Teachers' Reports to the Superintendent.
